In Centuripe, Sicily, with “Volare sull'Arte” (Flying over Art) the Sicilian landscape can be admired from a different perspective.

Centuripe is an Italian village shaped like a human figure.

Centuripe is a small village of about 5,000 inhabitants in eastern Sicily, in the province of Enna. When viewed from above, it’s impossible not to notice its striking resemblance to the shape of a person lying on their back, with arms and legs spread out.

Hot-air balloons over a moonscape valley

Hot-air balloons fly over the Calanchi del Cannizzola, a moonscape valley located between Mount Etna, which is Europe’s highest active volcano, and the Enna hinterland, giving passengers an unprecedented view of the little town and the surrounding landscape. “We believe in a kind tourism that excites and leaves its mark,- says Salvatore La Spina, Mayor of Centuripe.- “Volare sull'Arte” is a cultural bet that starts in Centuripe and tells the story of Sicily from an unprecedented and extraordinary point of view.”

The aerial experience is just one of the opportunities offered by the town. In addition to the hot-air balloon flight, there are several interesting routes to discover Centuripe with its particular urban conformation. In fact, the little municipality, seen from above, resembles a starfish. Centuripe lies in the hills of the province of Enna, at an altitude of 700 metres, in a panoramic position that has earned it the name the Balcony of Sicily.
There are several properties for overnight stays and a wide choice of typical restaurants, and it can also boasts an extensive archaeological heritage from the Roman era, the second richest in eastern Sicily after Taormina. Among the major attractions are the ancient Roman Dogana and Villa Corradino, the Regional Archaeological Museum, the 17th-century cathedral and, until 4 November 2025, the exhibition Futurismo e Futuristi Siciliani (Sicilian Futurism and Futirists).
